Need a power of attorney recognised abroad — for a property purchase, a legal matter, or business overseas? A UK power of attorney must be apostilled before most foreign authorities will accept it. We obtain the FCDO apostille on your behalf, and if your document hasn’t been signed yet, our solicitor or notary can witness it for you — by video call or in person at our London office.

Please keep in mind that we don’t issue apostilles ourselves. We specialise in guiding your power of attorney through the correct official channels quickly and accurately, so you avoid the rejections and delays that catch most people out.

What is a power of attorney apostille?

A power of attorney (POA) authorises someone to act on your behalf — for example to buy or sell property, manage a bank account, or handle legal matters in another country. To be valid for the apostille, a power of attorney must be signed and witnessed by a UK solicitor or notary public, and the FCDO will only apostille the original document bearing that signature.

An apostille is an official certificate added by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) confirming your document is genuine, so it can be accepted in any country that is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention.

Already signed and witnessed? Post us the original

If your power of attorney has already been signed and witnessed by a UK solicitor or notary public, simply post the original document to our London office (or bring it in person). We’ll submit it to the FCDO for the apostille and return it ready to use abroad. Scanned copies cannot be used — the apostille must go on the original signed document.

Not signed yet? Our solicitor or notary can witness it for you

If your power of attorney still needs to be signed, we can arrange for it to be signed and witnessed by our solicitor or notary public — either over a video call or in person at our London office, whichever suits you. This service starts from £120, and the exact fee depends on the nature of the document. Contact us with a copy of your draft and we’ll confirm the price and book you in.

Important — some countries require you to attend their consulate

A small number of countries — including Egypt, Pakistan and India — require a power of attorney to be signed at their own consulate in the UK, by you in person. In those cases we cannot execute the document on your behalf; you will need to attend the consulate yourself. If you’re not sure what your destination country requires, contact us before ordering and we’ll point you in the right direction.

How it works

  • Already signed: post or bring the original POA to our office.
  • Not signed yet: book our solicitor or notary to witness it (from £120) — by video call or at our office.
  • We submit the signed original to the FCDO for the apostille.
  • Your apostilled power of attorney is returned to you, ready to use abroad.

We handle the entire process and keep you updated at every step.

Pricing

  • Standard apostille (3–5 working days): £59 per document
  • Next-day apostille (next working day, received before 10am): £79 per document
  • Signing and witnessing by our solicitor or notary (if needed): from £120, depending on the document — contact us for a quote.

Example: signing from £120 + next-day apostille £79 = from £199.

Good to know

The apostille must be placed on the original signed document, so please don’t laminate it. If your destination country also requires a certified translation of the power of attorney, we can arrange that too. And if your POA is for Egypt, Pakistan or India, check the consulate requirement above before booking a signing appointment.

Frequently asked questions

Q: Does my power of attorney need to be signed before the apostille?
A: Yes. The FCDO will only apostille a power of attorney that has been signed and witnessed by a UK solicitor or notary public, on the original document.

Q: Can you arrange the signing for me?
A: Yes. Our solicitor or notary can witness your power of attorney by video call or in person at our London office, from £120 depending on the document. Contact us to book.

Q: Can I send a scan?
A: No — the apostille goes on the original signed document, so we need the original by post or in person.

Q: How long does it take?
A: Standard service is 3–5 working days. For documents received before 10am, our next-day service returns it the next working day. Signing appointments are booked separately.

Q: What about Egypt, Pakistan or India?
A: These countries generally require the power of attorney to be signed at their own consulate by you in person. Contact us and we’ll confirm the right route for your destination.
