What is the Saudi ETA?

The ETA is an online entry permit granted by Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs via its KSA Visa portal. It’s linked to your passport and covers repeat visits over two years. Children need their own ETA too, and approval has to come through before you fly. It isn’t issued on arrival and can’t be extended once you are in Saudi Arabia.

You can use it for

  • Tourism and leisure across the Kingdom
  • Business meetings, conferences and short business trips
  • Short courses of study
  • Medical treatment
  • Visiting Makkah and Madinah (Muslim visitors)
  • Umrah outside Hajj season (a Nusuk permit may be needed)

You can’t use it for

  • Any kind of employment: you need a Saudi Work Visa
  • Hajj: a dedicated Hajj visa is required

Frequently asked questions

Eligibility and validity

Who can apply for the Saudi ETA?
Anyone travelling on a valid British passport. Children need their own ETA as well.
How long is the ETA valid and how long can I stay?
Two years from the date it’s issued, for as many trips as you like, with stays of up to 180 days. The Saudi authorities haven’t confirmed whether the 180 days applies per visit, per year or across the two years, so check with us if you’re planning a long stay.
Can I extend the ETA?
No. To stay beyond 180 days or past the two-year validity, you need a new application or a different visa category.
Can I work in Saudi Arabia on the ETA?
No. The ETA does not allow any employment. For work you need a Saudi Work Visa and Iqama.
Can I visit Makkah and Madinah or perform Umrah?
Yes. Muslim travellers may enter Makkah and Madinah on the ETA and perform Umrah outside Hajj season, with a Nusuk permit where needed. The ETA cannot be used for Hajj.

Applying

How long does the ETA take?
Approval normally arrives within a few hours of payment, though the Saudi authorities can take up to 3 working days, so don’t leave it to the last minute.
How much does the Saudi ETA cost?
Our all-inclusive fee is £40 per applicant, which includes the Saudi government fee. The government fee is not refunded if an application is refused.
Is a sponsor or invitation needed?
No. You don’t need a sponsor, an invitation, or proof of hotels or flights.
Can I apply when I land in Saudi Arabia?
No, the ETA has to be approved before departure.
What happens if my ETA is refused?
You’ll be notified by email. The government fee isn’t refunded, and the Saudi authorities don’t give a reason, but you can reapply. We check for the usual causes, such as photo, passport validity or name mismatch, before you do.
Can I apply from outside London?
Yes. The ETA is fully online, so you can apply from anywhere in the UK.
