Heading to Italy to study, or getting your UK qualification recognised there? Italian authorities will usually ask for a Dichiarazione di Valore — and the paperwork behind it catches almost everyone out. The consulate won’t accept an ordinary certified copy of your degree, even with an apostille on it. The qualification has to be checked with the university that awarded it, notarised with specific wording, and then apostilled — in that order. We handle all three stages from our London office, so your documents arrive at the consulate right first time.

It’s an official statement from the Italian Consulate confirming what your UK qualification is worth within the Italian system — what level it sits at and what it gives you access to. Italian universities ask for it at enrolment, professional bodies ask for it when you register in a regulated field, and it crops up in some residency and employment procedures too. No Declaration of Value, no enrolment — which is why getting the supporting documents right matters so much.
Most people assume the normal UK route — solicitor true-copy certification plus an FCDO apostille — will do. For Italy, it won’t. The consulate expects the notarial certificate on your degree to confirm that the qualification was checked directly with the awarding university and found genuine, not merely that a photocopy matches an original. A standard certification doesn’t say that, so applications built on one are routinely turned away — usually after the applicant has already paid for the wrong service elsewhere. Our process is built around that requirement from the start.
Fixed quote confirmed before you commit
Because every university handles verification differently — some respond in days through online systems, others charge their own fees and take longer — we price the verification and notarisation stages individually and confirm a fixed quote before you commit. The apostille stage is our standard pricing: £59 (3–5 working days) or £79 (next working day). Contact us with your university’s name and we’ll come back with the full figure, usually within one working day.
If Italy has asked you for several documents, we can run them through verification and notarisation together — it’s quicker and cheaper than doing them one at a time.
Start early. The slowest part of the chain is usually your university’s verification response, which is outside anyone’s control — so if you have a consulate appointment or an enrolment deadline, get the process moving as soon as you can. Italian authorities will also normally want a sworn Italian translation of your documents; we can arrange translation alongside the legalisation, so mention your deadline when you enquire and we’ll plan the whole chain around it.
Q: Can’t I just apostille my degree and take it to the consulate?
A: For the Declaration of Value, no — the consulate also requires evidence that the qualification was verified with the university, built into the notarisation. An apostille on its own is not enough.
Q: Do you issue the Declaration of Value?
A: No — only the Italian Consulate can issue it. We prepare the verified, notarised and apostilled document package the consulate requires.
Q: How long does it take?
A: It depends mostly on your university’s verification turnaround. Once verification is back, notarisation and the apostille can be completed within a few working days — next-day apostille included where needed.
Q: Do I also need an Italian translation?
A: Usually yes. We can arrange the translation as part of the same order — just tell us when you enquire.
