DBS Certificate Apostille UK

Apostille from £59 — next-day service from £79

Working, teaching, or caring abroad? Most employers and immigration authorities overseas will ask for a DBS certificate that has been officially apostilled before they accept it. We make that simple. We arrange the solicitor certification your DBS certificate needs and then obtain the FCDO apostille on your behalf — so your document is recognised abroad without the stress of doing it yourself.

Please keep in mind that we don’t issue apostilles ourselves. We specialise in guiding your DBS certificate through the correct official channels quickly and accurately, so you avoid the rejections and delays that catch most people out.

What is a DBS certificate apostille?

A DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) certificate confirms your criminal record status. It comes in three forms — Basic, Standard and Enhanced — and is one of the most commonly requested documents for anyone moving abroad for work or study.

An apostille is an official certificate added by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) that confirms your document is genuine, so it can be accepted in any country that is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention. Once your DBS certificate carries an apostille, it is recognised as authentic overseas.

Why your DBS certificate needs solicitor certification first

This is the step most people miss. A DBS certificate cannot go straight to the FCDO for an apostille — it first needs to be certified by a UK solicitor. The certification confirms the document is a true copy and carries a signature the FCDO can verify, which is what allows the apostille to be issued.

You don’t need to arrange this separately. We can complete the solicitor certification for you for £20 per document before we submit it for the apostille, so the whole process is handled under one roof. If your DBS certificate has already been certified by a UK solicitor or notary, just let us know and we’ll skip that step.

How it works

  • Send your original DBS certificate to our team so we can check it meets the requirements.
  • We arrange the solicitor certification (£20 per document).
  • We submit your certified document to the FCDO for the apostille.
  • Your apostilled DBS certificate is returned to you, ready to use abroad.

We handle the entire process with the solicitor and the government, and keep you updated at every step.

Pricing

  • Solicitor certification (required before apostille): £20 per document
  • Standard apostille (3–5 working days): £59 per document
  • Next-day apostille (next working day, received before 10am): £79 per document

Example: a DBS certificate on our next-day service is £20 + £79 = £99. On standard service it’s £20 + £59 = £79.

Who needs a DBS certificate apostille?

  • A teacher, nurse, doctor, carer or social worker taking up a role abroad.
  • Applying for a work visa or residence permit overseas.
  • Registering with a professional body in another country.
  • Asked by a foreign employer or authority to prove your criminal record status.

Good to know

Many countries will only accept a DBS certificate that was issued recently — often within the last three to six months — so it’s worth checking the date before you start. If your certificate is older than the receiving authority allows, you may need to apply for a fresh one before we can apostille it. If you’re not sure, send it to us and we’ll advise.

Frequently asked questions

Q: Can my DBS certificate be apostilled without solicitor certification?
A: No. The FCDO needs the document to carry a verifiable signature, so a UK solicitor must certify it first. We arrange this for you for £20 per document.

Q: Which type of DBS certificate can be apostilled?
A: All three — Basic, Standard and Enhanced. The process is the same for each.

Q: Do I need to send the original?
A: Yes, please send the original DBS certificate. We’ll certify a copy and apostille it.

Q: How long does it take?
A: Standard service is 3–5 working days. For documents received before 10am, our next-day service returns your apostilled certificate the next working day.

Q: Will it be accepted in my destination country?
A: An apostille is recognised by all member countries of the Hague Apostille Convention. If your destination requires full embassy legalisation instead, we can arrange that too — just get in touch.
